GREGORY L. McCLELLAND acts as primary outside General Counsel to the Michigan Association of REALTORS®, Michigan Association of Home Builders, Small Business Association of Michigan, and as counsel for numerous local REALTOR® Boards and Associations. He authors a regular article in the Michigan REALTOR® and the Michigan Home Builders’ Association News. He also has acted as litigation counsel for associations, developers, general contractors, owners, and businesses for the past 20 years in bankruptcy, state, and federal courts and has testified as an expert witness with respect to real estate and business practices and litigation. Mr. McClelland received his law degree magna cum laude from the University of Illinois in 1978 and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1969 to 1972.

Greg McClelland’s practice includes:

  • Representation of entrepreneurs, developers, and close corporations in organization, operation, business financing, and the sale and purchase of land and other businesses.
  • Representation — as trial counsel — in commercial, construction, and all types of real estate-related litigation.
  • Representation of borrowers in projects financed through taxable bonds and notes.
  • Representation of trade associations in all aspects of association law.
  • Counsel to statewide associations on proposed amendments and participation as amicus curiae in Michigan Supreme Court and Court of Appeals in cases affecting the interests of the association’s members.

GAIL A. ANDERSON received her undergraduate degree and law degree (cum laude) from the University of Illinois in 1985. Ms. Anderson represents developers, lenders, real estate brokers, title companies, and other businesses. She is a past Chairperson of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar. Ms. Anderson has authored numerous articles in the Michigan Real Property Review and is a frequent lecturer on real property law matters for both the Real Property Law Section and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

Gail Anderson’s practice includes:

  • Representation of developers of residential, commercial, and multi-family developments, including purchase and sale transactions, title and survey issues, construction and end loans.
  • Advice, planning assistance, and documentation for residential and commercial condominium projects and subdivisions.
  • Representation and advice for real estate licensees in all areas, including licensing issues, contract matters, and agency issues.
  • Organization and representation of business owners - partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations, limited liability partnerships, and limited liability companies.
  • Advice on the purchase and sale of businesses, including liquor license transfers.

DAVID E. PIERSON practices primarily in the area of land use and environmental regulation in litigation and administrative proceedings; he has represented developers, landowners, and nonprofit organizations in land use, natural resources, and related matters in Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania including participation as amicus curiae in major regulatory takings cases and counsel on land use amendments in the Michigan Legislature. He has presented seminars around the state for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the Michigan Association of REALTORS®, local REALTOR® Boards, and municipal officials. Mr. Pierson received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and law degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1979.

David Pierson’s practice includes:

  • Advice and representation for land owners, developers, and lenders in land use approvals before local officials (including city councils and commissions, planning commissions, and zoning boards of appeal), and in court, for zoning , special use permits, planned unit developments, site plans, subdivisions, land divisions, and site condominiums.
  • Litigation in state and federal courts challenging local regulation through zoning, land division, and natural resource controls such as wetland and woodland regulation.
  • Advice, planning assistance, and litigation regarding state and local natural resource regulations affecting wetlands, floodplains, woodlands, sand dunes, inland lakes and streams, drains, and erosion control measures.
  • On a statewide policy level - counsel on proposed land use statutory amendments and participation as amicus curiae in Michigan Supreme Court and Court of Appeals including cases deciding for the first time under Michigan law when wetland regulation is a taking of property by the State.

MELISSA A. HAGEN specializes in construction, employment, and commercial litigation. Ms. Hagen is a 1989 graduate of the University of Cincinnati Law School where she served on the Moot Court Board and became a member of the Order of the Barristers. Ms. Hagen is a cum laude graduate of Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and Journalism. Ms. Hagen is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, as well as the Eastern and Western Districts of the Michigan Federal Courts.

Melissa Hagen’s practice includes:

  • Litigation in state and federal courts in commercial litigation including construction, employment, business, and real estate disputes.
  • Advice and representation of builders in State of Michigan regulatory and administrative proceedings before the Department of Consumer & Industry Services, Administrative Law Judges, and Michigan courts.
  • Planning, assistance, and advice on handicapper access regulations for developers, property owners, and tenants.
  • Representation and advice for employers including Title VII, Elliot-Larsen, Americans with Disabilities Act, Michigan Handicapper Civil Rights Act, and Michigan Wage and Fringe Benefit Act; representation of employers before the Department of Civil Rights and the Employment Security Commission.

MICHAEL F. MATHESON specializes in the areas of construction, real estate and commercial litigation. Mr. Matheson received his B.B.A. from Northwood University and his juris doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Mr. Matheson has represented real estate developers and construction contractors on a variety of development and construction related issues, including claims for extra compensation, differing site conditions and private lien and public bond claims.. He has presented seminars on numerous construction law topics, including construction liens and bond claims. Mr. Matheson is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, as well as the Eastern and Western U.S. District Courts.

Michael Matheson’s practice includes:

  • Litigation in state and federal courts in commercial matters, such as construction, real estate, and contract and business-related disputes.

  • Representation and advice for residential home builders in licensing matters before the State of Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services and Michigan Courts.

  • Representation and advice to construction contractors, including construction liens, bond claims, differing site conditions, and claims for extra compensation.

Jared A. Roberts practices in the areas of commercial litigation, land use and zoning proceedings and litigation, and entertainment and arts representation.  Mr. Roberts received a B.A., summa cum laude, from Saginaw Valley State University in Political Science, with a Music minor, and his juris doctor magna cum laude in 1999 from Michigan State University’s Detroit College of Law.  In law school he served on Law Review and the Moot Court Board and interned with the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  Mr. Roberts has published in the area of First Amendment law and is an adjunct instructor at Michigan State University’s Detroit College of Law.   In addition, Mr. Roberts sits on the Board of Directors for the Ingham County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and on the advisory boards of various non-profit arts organizations. 

 Jared Roberts’ practice includes:

  • Commercial and business litigation for businesses and individuals, including contract and employment  matters.

  • Zoning and land use representation before local government bodies, and litigation on behalf of property owners

  • Business organization, advice, and dispute resolution for musicians, artists and arts organizations.

ELAN A. STAVROS practices in the areas of appellate law and commercial litigation. Ms. Stavros earned a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and is a 2000 cum laude graduate of Michigan State University Law School. In law school, Ms. Stavros was a member of the Moot Court Board and won the 2000 Jurisprudence Award in Law and Medicine. Ms. Stavros has clerked for Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Peter D. O’Connell and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Clifford W. Taylor. She is president of the Ingham County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and sits on the Ingham County Bar Association’s Board of Directors. She also serves as a trial competition and moot court judge at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Michigan State University Law School.

Elan Stavros’s practice includes:

  • Legal research and drafting of circuit and appellate court briefs.
  • Commercial and business litigation for businesses and individuals, including administrative appeals.
